Genius Hour
|
Genius Hour refers to the allocation of time for students to work on whatever project they want during their own learning time. This allow for students to find something that they are passionate about or that interests them and follow that up.
The first rule of Genius Hour is that there must be a driving question, with students communicating what it is that they want to learn more about. This cannot be a closed question, but rather than one that is open and more broad. The project must involve some aspect of research and the outcome must be shared with the class. Genius Hour is based on the understanding that some students are not motivated by the traditional school environment, so this provides an opportunity to build intrinsic motivation and become engaged learners. It is found that when students have a say in their learning, they become more involved, confident and enjoy learning. |
